Report: Exxon sued over environmental violations from Texas refinery blaze

Oil major Exxon Mobil Corp. is being sued by Texas for environmental violations following a recent fire and explosion that left 37 people injured at its Baytown olefins plant in Texas, the Houston Chronicle reported.

The lawsuit was filed in the District Court of Travis County, Texas, by the state's attorney general on behalf of Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and seeks "injunctive relief, civil penalties, attorney's fees, and court costs for violations of the Texas Clean Air Act and Texas Water Code."

The Houston Chronicle also said Harris County filed a lawsuit Aug. 1 against the oil major.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, the report said.
