MPLX moving forward with Oklahoma-to-Illinois oil pipeline expansion

After a successful binding open season, MPLX LP said it will move forward with plans to expand oil transportation service between Cushing, Okla., and Patoka, Ill., to 360,000 barrels per day on its Ozark and Woodpat lines.

The expansion would begin service in the third quarter, and boost oil flows by another 15,000 bbl/d to the Midwest oil hub of Patoka that is connected to several refineries. The additional capacity will be added by operation modifications, including tankage in Wood River, Ill.

The Ozark pipeline is a 433-mile, 22-inch system running from Cushing to Wood River and is capable of carrying 230,000 bbl/d. An expansion project bolstering service to 345,000 bbl/d is expected to come online in the second quarter. The Woodpat line is a 55-mile, 22-inch pipeline running from Wood River to Patoka and can move 215,000 bbl/d. An expansion to 345,000 bbl/d is also expected to be finished in the second quarter.
