Hyundai Motor teams up with Xevo to offer in-car payment

Hyundai Motor America partnered with Washington-based software solutions company Xevo Inc. to launch a new payment system that will allow car owners to pay for products and services through an in-car payment platform.

The Hyundai Motor Co. unit said June 6 that the system will allow drivers to find and pay for gas at participating Chevron Corp. and Texaco-branded fuel stations, order and pay for food from Dine Brands Global Inc.-owned Applebee's International Inc., and find, reserve and pay for parking with ParkWhiz Inc.

Hyundai and Xevo will also develop the Hyundai Digital Wallet, which will store customers' payment information and facilitate payment processing to enable in-car commerce.

The payment platform was showcased at the TU-Automotive Detroit event, according to the release.

General Motors Co.-owned Chevrolet announced a similar project in April with oil and gas company Royal Dutch Shell PLC. The companies launched a fuel payment system that lets users pay for fuel through their cars' dashboard. The project became an added feature to GM's Marketplace commerce app, which allows reservations and purchases of goods and services from brands including Starbucks Corp., Dunkin' Brands Group Inc.'s Dunkin' Donuts and TGI Friday's Inc.
