A Sept. 29 fire at Petróleo Brasileiro SA's 252,000-barrel-per-day Henrique Lage Refinery in São José dos Campos, Brazil, happened when the unit was going through a scheduled outage, the state-owned company told Reuters on Sept. 30.
A local union told Reuters the unit was shut Sept. 26. Union head Rafael Prado said a tank was leaking at the refinery Sept. 27, and teams are investigating if there is a link between the leak and the fire.
Petrobras told Reuters that no one was hurt in the incident.
The state-owned oil company is currently in the process of divesting eight refineries. The Henrique Lage Refinery is not among those listed to be sold.
According to Petrobras, the refinery is the third-largest in Brazil and processes 14% of domestic oil output.
