Albania selected a consortium led by India Power Corp. Ltd. to build a 100-MW solar facility, Tirana Times reported Nov. 12.
The project, estimated to cost €70 million, will help diversify Albania's domestic generation portfolio which is currently entirely hydro-dependent, according to the report.
Upon close of contract negotiations, the solar project is expected to be built in 18 months at Akerni salty lands of Vlora, about 130 km away from Tirana where the government is planning to build a new airport.
The facility will sell 50 MW of electricity to a state-run distribution operator at €59.9/MWh for 15 years. The remaining 50 MW will be sold at market prices, according to the report.
The India Power-led consortium also includes UAE-based Mining Resources FZE and Hong-Kong-based Midami Ltd.
