Nucor taps Topalian to replace retiring CEO

U.S. steel manufacturer Nucor Corp. said Sept. 6 that chairman and CEO John Ferriola will retire Dec. 31 and be succeeded as CEO by Leon Topalian.

Topalian, who has worked for Nucor in various roles since 1996, was elected by the company's board on Sept. 5 to be president and COO. He will add the CEO title on Jan. 1, 2020, in line with Nucor's planned succession process.

Topalian most recently served as an executive vice president of Nucor from 2017 to 2019 and a vice president from 2013 to 2017.
