The search for AMP Ltd.'s new CEO continues as former Westpac Banking Corp. banker Rob Coombe turned the company down, The Australian reported May 23.
Coombe was reportedly approached by AMP's board due to his experience as head of retail banking at Westpac and his role as CEO of BT Financial Group Pty Ltd. Coombe, who is now chairman of Generation Development Group, turned down the offer to take over from Craig Meller.
AMP is facing allegations of financial misconduct, including filing an allegedly doctored report to the country's securities regulator. The allegations have forced out Catherine Brenner, the company's former chairman, and three nonexecutive directors.
Two names, Geoff Lloyd, who will depart as CEO of Perpetual Ltd. in June, and BT Financial CEO Bradley Cooper, are still in contention for the CEO job, the publication said.
