Justice Department issues 2nd request for information in CVS-Aetna deal

The U.S. Department of Justice has requested more information from CVS Health Corp. and Aetna Inc. with respect to their pending merger.

The first request for information about the merger from the department and U.S. Federal Trade Commission was set to expire Feb. 1 at midnight unless the regulators asked for more information.

The second request extends the waiting period to clear antitrust hurdles in the transaction. The regulators have 30 days to approve or deny the deal, or ask again for more information.

Aetna wrote in an announcement that it continues to expect the deal will be completed in the second half of 2018.

The deal still needs approval from both companies' shareholders, and a vote has been scheduled for March 20.
