Vectren Energy Delivery of Indiana-South is launching its smart meter deployment program in Southwest Indiana this month.
The company expects widespread deployment by January 2018 and completion by the end of that year, according to a Dec. 11 news release.
"These meters will help us deliver that detailed usage information to customers and will also ensure estimated meter reads are virtually eliminated, which is another must-have our customers have requested," said Vectren Corp. Chairman, President and CEO Carl Chapman.
The utility noted that its customers will not see increases in their bills due to the smart meter initiative until after its next electric rate review.
The smart meter program is part of the utility's $446 million, seven-year electric reliability and modernization plan.
Vectren Energy Delivery of Indiana-South is legally known as Southern Indiana Gas and Electric Co. Inc.
