China announced tariffs on phenol imports from the U.S., the European Union, South Korea, Japan and Thailand, saying the imports were being dumped in China, causing substantial damage to local industries.
China's Ministry of Commerce said Sept. 3 that the anti-dumping tariffs, which take effect Sept. 6, will range from 10.6% to 287.2% and be applicable for a five-year period.
The final ruling follows a preliminary ruling in May, which in turn followed an investigation into the matter on the domestic phenol industry's request.
The U.S. started imposing 15% tariffs on a host of Chinese products Sept. 1 and China began imposing new duties on U.S. crude oil. China filed a complaint with the World Trade Organization over the recent round of U.S.-imposed tariffs.
