Southern Power CEO to retire

Joseph Miller has announced his retirement as chairman, president and CEO of Southern Power Co., the competitive generation business of Southern Co.

Mark Lantrip, Southern Co. Services Inc. chairman, president and CEO, will replace Miller on an interim basis, until a permanent replacement is chosen, according to a March 1 news release. Miller's retirement is effective April 1.

Miller joined the company at Alabama Power Co. in 1986 and has been an active part of the organization in several roles. In 2006, Miller was asked to lead the development of Vogtle units 3 and 4, the first new nuclear units to be built in the U.S. in over 30 years. Miller assumed his role at Southern Power in February 2016.
