Global communications company ViaSat Inc. teamed up with Brazilian satellite service provider Visiontec to bring high-speed satellite internet to the country.
As part of the partnership, Visiontec will serve as Viasat's fulfillment partner in Brazil, while Viasat will provide the ground network and infrastructure to power the Telecomunicações Brasileiras SA - TELEBRÁS-owned SGDC-1 satellite to provide broadband services in underserved areas, according to a June 3 news release. Visiontec's network of distributors, dealers and installers will be available to Viasat for installation of broadband internet and Wi-Fi capabilities.
Visiontec's current installations have connected more than 5,000 remote schools and 1 million students, the company said.
Viasat recently also partnered with Ruralweb to distribute and deploy high-speed satellite internet services throughout all of Brazil.
