Juul suspends US sales of flavored e-cigarettes

Juul Labs Inc. said Oct. 17 the company suspended the sale of its non-tobacco, non-menthol-based flavors in the U.S. as the U.S. Food Drug and Administration continues to review the sale of flavored e-cigarette products.

The suspended non-menthol-based flavors include includes mango, creme, fruit and cucumber.

Juul's new CEO K.C. Crosthwaite has been reviewing the company's practices and policies. Following the review, Juul suspended all broadcast, print and digital product advertising in the U.S.

The San Francisco-based startup stopped selling the flavored e-cigarettes in retail stores in 2018. Juul's non-tobacco, non-menthol-based flavors were available in the U.S. only on its website.

Juul is under regulatory scrutiny on multiple fronts amid concerns over youth vaping and vaping-related illnesses.

The Federal Trade Commission is investigating Juul's marketing practices, while the Trump administration is working on a plan to ban most flavored electronic cigarettes. Also, attorneys general from Florida, Illinois and the District of Columbia are probing Juul's product design and marketing practices.
