Total US rig count continues to climb during week of June 8

The combined oil and natural gas rig count in the United States was up two rigs during the week ended June 8 to 1,062, according to the latest Baker Hughes North American Rotary Rig Count. The total count was up 135 rigs from the same week in 2017.

Oil-directed rigs were up one on the week to a total of 862, which was up 121 from the same week in 2017. Natural gas-directed rigs also rose one to a total of 198, which was up 13 from the corresponding year-ago period.

During the week ended June 8, the North American rig count climbed 15 on the week and 115 on the year to a total of 1,174. Canadian rigs advanced by 13 on the week but were down 20 on the year at a total of 112.

U.S. land rigs were unchanged during the week under review at 1,039, but were up 137 from the same week in 2017. Inland water rigs rose one on the week and were unchanged on the year at a total of three. Offshore rigs increased one on the week but decreased two on the year to a total of 20.

By trajectory, vertical rigs slipped five on the week and dropped 20 on the yearly period to a total of 61 during the week ended June 8. Horizontal rigs rose five on the week and were up 154 on the year to a total of 934. Directional rigs gained two on the week and one on the year to a total of 67.
