Las Vegas Sands Corp. on Aug. 22 said it has dropped out of the race to open a resort in the Japanese city of Osaka and will instead look at development opportunities in Tokyo or Yokohama.
For several years the Osaka government has been in talks with operators including Las Vegas Sands, MGM Resorts International, Wynn Resorts Ltd., Melco Resorts & Entertainment Ltd., Galaxy Entertainment Group Ltd. and Genting Singapore Ltd. over a license to develop an integrated resort ahead of its hosting of the 2025 World Expo.
Las Vegas Sands said it will now reinvest in its existing properties in the U.S., Macao and Singapore, and consider an investment in Tokyo or Yokohama.
