Wal-Mart de México SAB de CV's consolidated sales in February 2018 rose 7.6% year over year to 43.52 billion Mexican pesos, the company's monthly sales data posted March 5 showed.
Walmart Inc.'s largest unit outside the U.S. reported that total sales in Mexico grew 10.1% year over year to 35.33 billion pesos, compared with 32.08 billion pesos a year earlier, as comparable store sales increased 8.9%. On a comparable unit basis, average purchases in the country grew 6.8% year over year, while transaction volume rose 2.1%.
Walmex's February sales in Central America dropped 1.9% year over year on a constant currency basis to 8.19 billion pesos, compared with 8.35 billion pesos in 2017. However, comparable store sales in the region were up 4.1% year over year.
The company opened 13 new outlets — eight in Mexico and five across Central America — in the month and another one in Mexico during March.
As of March 2, US$1 was equivalent to about 18.90 Mexican pesos.
