North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey urged Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina to appoint an interim CEO following a traffic accident involving President and CEO Patrick Conway, ABC 11 reported.
Conway faces charges of driving while impaired, failure to maintain lane control, civil revocation of driver's license, two counts of misdemeanor child abuse and reckless driving with wanton disregard, according to an earlier report.
Causey raised concerns regarding reports of Conway's arrest and the "almost dismissive" response of the company's board and executive team to the charges. The commissioner urged the company to appoint an interim CEO until all pending legal matters have been settled, according to the report.
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina previously said it immediately established a committee within its board upon learning of the accident in June. The company's board of trustees reportedly decided that Conway will remain as its president and CEO due to his strong leadership.
