Illinois American Water Company will acquire the municipal water and wastewater systems of Fisher, Ill., for $6.8 million.
The deal will enhance the buyer's customer base in Champaign County, adding 850 new water and sewer clients. Illinois American Water plans to invest $2.9 million within five years of the acquisition for security upgrades, meter replacements and plant improvements, among other steps.
The Village of Fisher board of directors approved the sale in July 2017. The Illinois Commerce Commission cleared the transaction March 7.
