Aetna shareholder proposals on lobbying, special meetings fail to pass

Aetna Inc. shareholders voted against proposals for an annual report on lobbying and for reducing the percentage of shareholders required to call a special meeting.

A total of 224,661,368 shareholders voted against the proposal calling for an annual report on Aetna's direct and indirect lobbying activities and expenditures, with 19,615,880 voting in favor.

The proposal to lower the shareholder vote threshold for calling a special meeting got 233,198,682 votes against and 17,820,398 votes in favor.

The board had said it would oppose the proposals.
