Nuclear update: Limerick 2 restarts; 2 reactors ramp up

Total U.S. nuclear plant availability rose above the 87% level early May 26 to 87.03%, up from 86.48% on May 25 but still lower than the 91.25% reported on the same day last year.

Giving a push to total production was the return of Exelon Corp.'s Limerick 2 in Pennsylvania, which was warming up at 3% early May 26 after being taken offline on April 17 for a refueling outage.

In addition, two other reactors increased output. Entergy Corp.'s Palisades unit in Michigan was pegged at 91% early May 26, rising from 60% on May 25, and Duke Energy Corp.'s Catawba 1 in South Carolina was operating at 100% power early May 26, up from 77% the day prior.
