Codelco chairman to resign in March 2018

Codelco Chairman Óscar Landerretche confirmed he will resign from his position after the government of President Michelle Bachelet ends its term in March 2018, Tele13 Radio reported Dec. 11.

"I think that it does not do very well for the company that the electoral cycle affects the decision-making cycle, because as anyone can know, decisions in mining and in Codelco are long-term decisions," Landerretche said, adding that when "the decision to make a project is made, we are talking about 10 to 15 years."

The chairman also called for the company to continue working on separating government changes from its own administration.
