Report: Google decides against potential Toronto lease deal with WeWork

Tech giant Google LLC dropped its plans to lease space at coworking giant WeWork Cos. Inc.'s location at 357 Bay St. in Toronto, signing a multiyear deal with WeWork rival IWG PLC instead, Bloomberg News reported, citing people with knowledge of the matter.

Under the IWG deal, the Alphabet Inc. unit will occupy approximately 24,000 square feet across two floors at the Spaces location in Royal Bank Plaza in Toronto's financial district, the unnamed sources told the news outlet.

The We Co. unit is reportedly considering alternative $5 billion rescue packages from investor SoftBank Group Corp. and JPMorgan Chase & Co. following its recently postponed IPO and could make a decision on the financing plan as soon as this weekend.

Representatives for Google, WeWork and IWG declined to comment on the leasing, according to Bloomberg.
