Walgreens plans to open new Chicago office, relocate jobs

Illinois-based Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc. said June 15 that it plans to open a new office in Chicago, where it plans to employ 1,800 people.

The company will open the new office, spanning 200,000 square feet, in Chicago's Old Post Office Building. Walgreens said it plans to open the office in the fall of 2019.

Digital and IT operations employees supporting the Walgreens business, as well as some Walgreens Boots Alliance global IT personnel, will be located in the new office space. The drugstore retailer said that about 1,300 of the 1,800 positions at the new office will be relocations from other offices. Walgreens said this will be the largest number of corporate employees ever based in Chicago.

The company will remain headquartered in Deerfield, Ill., where about 3,200 employees are expected to continue to work.

Walgreens employs about 4,500 workers in Chicago, where it operates 120 drugstores.
