AT&T to test 5G services in 3 states

AT&T Inc. is set to test 5G services and equipment operating at 28 GHz in a "non-simulated business and residential environment," in three states, WirelessWeek.com reported May 30, citing an FCC application.

The tests will be conducted in Waco, Texas; Kalamazoo, Mich.; and South Bend, Ind., over the next 18 months, the application said. The U.S. carrier plans to deploy radio units and antennas at up to five locations in each of the three cities, and has requested approval for 150 experimental transmitter units from various manufacturers.

In April, AT&T unveiled plans to introduce 5G Evolution in more than 20 major metro areas, including Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Nashville, Tenn., and San Francisco, by the end of 2017.
