Amazon.com Inc. is testing a feature on its platform that allows users to leave product feedback with one tap, TechCrunch reported Sept. 13.
The new one-tap star ratings system reportedly enables people without the time or interest to write a review to still leave their opinion about a product. Only ratings from verified purchases will contribute to an item's overall star rating.
The trial helps Amazon gather feedback from a larger number of its consumers and could eventually offset the reviews written by those who are paid or incentivized by a third-party seller, the report said.
"We are testing a feature that allows customers to leave feedback easily while also helping shoppers get authentic customer ratings on products from a broader set of shoppers," an Amazon spokesperson reportedly told TechCrunch. The company also confirmed that the feature is an experiment and not a public launch.
The ratings system has been rolled out globally on the marketplace website and in the mobile app, the report added. However, not all users will see the new feature since some will be in a control group.
