X5 opens new distribution center in Siberia

Russian grocery retailer X5 Retail Group NV said Oct. 12 that it has opened a new distribution center in Novosibirsk, Russia, generating 190 new jobs.

The facility is the Netherlands-based company's first distribution center in Siberia and will serve all of X5's Pyaterochka soft discount stores in Kemerovo, Novosibirsk, Omsk and Altai. As of Sept. 30, the retailer had 186 stores in those four regions.

The 17,000-square-meter distribution center is intended to store almost all types of supermarket goods and consists of four zones, each set with a specific temperature band.

X5 said it expects the new Novosibirsk facility to support Pyaterochka's rapid growth in the region, lower transportation costs and provide new opportunities to local producers.
