Campbell Soup Co., in partnership with BNB Renewable Energy Holdings, SunPower Corp. and ORIX USA Corp., has brought online a 4.4-MW solar power project at Campbell's global headquarters in Camden, N.J.
The solar project joins other renewable projects for Campbell including a 9.8-MW solar array in Napoleon, Ohio; a 1-MW solar array in Bloomfield, Conn.; and a 1.2-MW fuel cell and 1.4-MW fuel cell in Bloomfield, Conn.
Output from the Camden project is contracted to Campbell under a 20-year power purchase agreement at a fixed rate. The system is capable of producing 5 million kWh annually, covering 20% of the yearly electric usage of Campbell's headquarters.
Construction of the project started in May 2017. The developers installed 2.7 MW of solar panels on rooftops and on new solar canopies, as well as a 1.7-MW array on an adjacent 4.5-acre remediated brownfield.
BNB and ORIX USA will jointly own the project, while the term debt is funded through local utility Public Service Electric and Gas Co.'s solar loan program. The project will also feature five electric vehicle-charging stations provided by the Public Service Enterprise Group Inc. subsidiary.
