Kentucky utility seeks RFPs for 3-month spot coal deal

East Kentucky Power Cooperative Inc. is seeking spot coal for delivery to Spurlock units 1 and 2 at the H.L. Spurlock power station.

East Kentucky Power issued a request for proposals on March 27 for spot deliveries of up to 100,000 tons of coal per month, beginning May 1, for a term of up to three months.

The generation and transmission utility is seeking coal spec'd at a minimum 11,000 Btu/lb, maximums of 15% ash and 7 lbs sulfur dioxide/MMBtu, all on an "as received" basis.

Units 1 and 2 at the Spurlock power station can receive coal by barge on the Ohio River at milepost 414.1 or by rail at Charleston Bottoms, Ky., via CSX Transportation Inc. or TTI Railroad.
