Malaysia's Senturia Capital to invest 500M ringgit in real estate, capital funds

Senturia Capital is planning to invest 500 million Malaysian ringgit in real estate and capital funds, with an eye on investment opportunities in Malaysia, Singapore, China and Australia, The (Malaysia) Star reported.

The Malaysian private equity firm is allocating 200 million ringgit in core or core-plus real estate investments, as the company believes that core real estate provides much higher returns and is almost as safe as bonds, according to the report, which cited Datuk Marco Yap, the company's managing partner.

Senturia's Strategic Capital Fund will raise the 300 million ringgit amount, which will be provided as alternative capital of businesses in different sectors. Yap said providers of alternative capital have entered the market because traditional banks have kept their distance from lending to some sectors of the credit market.

The June 8 report also noted that the firm will be involved in acquiring mezzanine real estate, specialized equity investments, real estate debt and commercial deals.

As of June 7, US$1 was equivalent to 4.26 Malaysian ringgit.
