Volkswagen to pause car production in Russia due to supply chain disruption

Volkswagen AG's Russian unit will suspend production of cars due to a shortage of supplies stemming from the coronavirus outbreak in Europe, Reuters reported March 24, citing a statement from Volkswagen Group Rus OOO.

Work at Volkswagen's plant in the Russian city of Kaluga and at its assembly line in the city of Nizhny Novgorod will pause from March 30 to April 10, the report said.

"At the moment we can provide stable supplies of cars and spare pasts to our dealers and clients," Volkswagen Russia reportedly said.

The plant suspension follows the wider group's decision to suspend manufacturing in Europe and the U.S. to help in efforts to curb the spread of the new coronavirus.
