Moody's revises outlook on 6 European banking systems to negative

Moody's changed the outlook on the banking sector of France, Italy, Spain, Denmark, Netherlands and Belgium to negative from stable.

The revision was due to the agency's expectation of significant deterioration of the operating environment of the six countries' banking systems due to the coronavirus. It expects a cumulative contraction in economic activity in Europe over the first and second quarter.

The rating agency maintained the negative outlook on the banking sectors of the U.K. and Germany, along with the stable outlook on the banking sectors of Sweden and Switzerland.
