Flight attendants at Pinnacle Airlines have elected the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA as their union, the AFA-CWA announced yesterday.
The AFA-CWA will replace the United Steelworkers as representatives of the airline’s flight attendants. The USW also represents some 800 Pinnacle ground workers, court filings show.
In a statement following the vote, the USW commended “the airline employees for participating in the democratic process,” and urged, “Pinnacle employees must be united in solidarity and purpose, and management must include them in planning for the future of the airline.”
There are some 1,800 flight attendants at the airline, the AFA-CWU release said. The AFA-CWA said it was the world’s largest flight-attendant union, representing about 60,000 flight attendants at 21 airlines.
Among other things, Pinnacle has said that one of its goals in Chapter 11 is to renegotiate its existing union agreements. – Alan Zimmerman
