The Quebec government appointed Sophie Brochu president and CEO of Hydro-Québec, effective April 6. Brochu will also sit on the company's board, the utility announced April 1.
Brochu will succeed Éric Martel, who stepped down in March to take over as chief executive of Montreal-headquartered airplane and train manufacturer Bombardier Inc., effective April 6.
Brochu was most recently the president and CEO of Énergir, stepping down at the end of 2019 after 12 years as the company's top executive. Énergir, also headquartered in Montreal, owns Énergir LP, which controls several utilities, including natural gas distributors in Quebec and Vermont, plus Vermont electric utility Green Mountain Power Corp. and partial interests in wind farms in Quebec.
