Discount retailer B&M European Value Retail SA on April 1 said it has decided to temporarily close 49 of its stores in the U.K., while keeping most sites open during the coronavirus pandemic.
The company said its B&M U.K. Fascia and Heron Foods businesses have continued to trade as normal following guidance from the U.K. government. B&M said 656 of its namesake stores and 293 Heron stores are operating as usual.
B&M said the stores that it decided to temporarily shut down include small-format stores and those that are inside shopping centers that have halted operations. Workers at the affected sites have been furloughed.
The company said the stores that are now closed account for 3% of its revenue for fiscal 2020 and 2% of its EBITDA.
