American Transmission gets permit to upgrade 138-kV line in Wisconsin

The Public Service Commission of Wisconsin approved American Transmission Co. LLC's plan to upgrade a 21-mile, 138-kV transmission line connecting the Bayport substation in Brown County and the Pioneer substation in Oconto County.

The Bayport-Pioneer rebuild project is estimated to cost $47 million. Construction is scheduled to begin in late 2020, with an in-service date of 2022.

The project involves replacing 69-kV wires with 138-kV wires, replacing old transmission structures and installing a second set of 138-kV wires. The Bayport, Pioneer, Pulliam, Sobieski and Suamico substations will also be upgraded.
