What goes into an ESG score?
Participating companies provide detailed answers to a standardized set of ESG-related questions through our proprietary Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA).
How we score the Corporate Sustainability Assessment
-
Start with data
Nearly 1,000 data points are assessed for each participating firm -
Study the answers
Up to 120 relevant questions are answered and we evaluate the responses -
Segment the findings
Nearly 30 different criteria are used to parse the insights -
Value each dimension
After review, individual raw data items are aggregated into question scores, then into criteria, dimension scores that make up the S&P Global ESG score. This is done using predefined scoring algorithms and aggregation techniques that ensure objectivity in the scoring process. -
Create the S&P Global ESG Score
A final S&P Global ESG Score is determined using predefined weights based on financial materiality for each industry.
The ESG scores of 7,300+ companies are calculated by our team in Zurich based on company answers to the CSA and/or publicly available data.
