New York — Posidonia, one of the world's largest shipping events, has been postponed from June 1-5 until October 26-30 due to "the escalating challenges we all face as a result of the Coronavirus-COVID-19 pandemic," according to the organizers.
"Given the uncertainty currently surrounding our original dates, the international character of Posidonia and the pressure our exhibitors and visitors are under in actioning now their travel and logistical arrangements as well as the shipment of their exhibits, we concluded that we could not delay this decision any longer," read a statement on the event website Tuesday.
The biennial expo, held in the Greek capital Athens, is arguably the most important event in the global shipping industry. The 2018 event hosted more than 2,000 companies from 92 countries and had a total attendance of 39,485 people.
