Port Houston terminals closed amid Hurricane Nicholas power outages

All Port Houston terminals will remain closed Sept. 14 due to the continued effects of Hurricane Nicholas, including widespread power outages, the country's largest port for steel imports said in a statement.

Vessel operations at the port were expected to resume at 7 pm on Sept. 14, with normal operations resumed by Sept. 15, the port said.

Nicholas made landfall as a Category 1 hurricane near the eastern part of the Matagorda Peninsula at about 1:30 am EDT on Sept. 14.

Port Houston is the US' busiest steel port with a total 3.9 million st of steel products imported through Houston/Galveston in 2020, according to data from the American Iron and Steel Institute.
