Dillinger Group's Rogesa iron production subsidiary confirmed this week it plans to start coke oven gas injection using hydrogen to reduce blast furnace emissions from the summer of 2020.
Rogesa is installing two coke oven gas injection plants and gas systems integrating into the company's blast furnaces No. 4 and No. 5 located in Dillingen, western Germany, it said.
The processed byproduct gas is planned to be injected into half of the number of tuyeres of No. 5 blast furnace, followed by injection at all tuyeres of both furnaces.
Coke oven gas will be transformed into a metallurgical process gas with 55% hydrogen content, helping partially replace PCI and metallurgical coke in the blast furnaces, a spokeswoman at the group said by email.
The amount of carbon emissions saved, and quantity of met coke and PCI displaced, was not disclosed.
