End of June inventory at 326,999 st
Spot purchases total 174,423 st
East Kentucky Power Cooperative bought 319,795 st of barge coal from eight suppliers in June, down 16% from 380,542 st in May, a state regulatory filing showed July 21.
The Winchester, Kentucky-based cooperative told the Kentucky Public Service Commission it bought coal with an average heat content of 11,937 Btu/lb at an average delivered cost of $40.92/st, compared with 11,851 Btu/lb at $39.98/st in May.
EKPC bought 145,372 st of contract coal for its Spurlock Station near Charleston Bottoms, down from 271,804 st purchased in May. The other 174,423 st were spot purchases, up from 108,738 st a month earlier.
Most of the spot coal came from Foresight Energy with 93,776 st at an average delivered cost of $37.58, compared with Alliance Resources, which totaled 51,165 st at an average delivered cost of $42.54/st in May.
Purchases for Units No. 1 and 2 at the Spurlock Station totaled 183,894 st in June, down from 264,946 st in May, while the cooperative bought 133,823 st for Units No. 3 and No. 4, up from 115,597 st the previous month.
At the end of June, the Spurlock station's coal inventory was at 326,999 st, or 38 days of supply, compared with 350,812 st, or 40 days, after May.
In 2020, the Spurlock Station took delivery of 3.06 million st of coal at an average delivered cost of $41.53/st, down from 3.09 million st at $43.86/st in 2019, according to data from the US Energy Information Administration.
